Understanding the 750ft Rule:
Firstly, it's crucial to comprehend the operational parameters of our Oyster GPS tracking device. Our trackers are designed to initiate reporting once they have traveled a distance of 750 feet. However, this distance is measured in a straight line, often referred to as "as the crow flies," and not based on circular or intricate movement patterns.
Driving in circles or complex paths around an area, even if the total distance traveled accumulates to 750 feet or more, won't trigger the reporting mechanism of the tracker.
Steps to Ensure Tracker Reporting:
Straight-Line Movement:
- To activate the tracker's reporting, ensure you drive the asset in a straight direction for at least 750 feet without significant turns or deviations.
Check Tracker's Power and Installation:
- Confirm the device is has good batteries installed. We recommend Energizer Ultimate Lithium.
- Ensure it's installed in a position that allows for optimal satellite reception. This typically means an area with a clear line of sight to the sky, avoiding obstructions like metal or dense materials. (If you choose to hide the tracker, just remember to test it in the hidden location)
Reset the Device:
- Occasionally, electronic devices might need a simple reset to function correctly. If you've traveled the required straight-line distance and the tracker is still not reporting, consider removing the 3 batteries, waiting 60 seconds and then re-installing the batteries.
Check the Reporting Platform:
- Make sure you're checking the correct platform or dashboard for your device's reports. Sometimes, a delay or issue with the reporting platform might be the reason you're not seeing updates.
